This collection aims at highlighting the fascinating process of manufacturing landscapes within the Dutch territory.

One of the biggest changes in the last century in the Netherlands have been the realisation of 4 central polders in the former Zuiderzee. The second polder to be realised was the Noordoostpolder. The ring dyke was closed in October 1939. As the maps show, the polder incorporated two islands -Urk and Schockland. Urk, a fishermen island, has kept its autonomy and is an independent municipality ever since.
